What is the Olympiad About
The Citizenship Olympiad 2026 is a national, online Olympiad designed to assess and strengthen young people’s Media and Information Literacy (MIL), critical thinking and responsible citizenship in today’s digital and civic environment. The Olympiad focuses on real-life scenarios, ethical judgment and informed decision-making related to media, information and democratic participation.
The Olympiad is led by the Department of Information
Studies, East West University, and MILNetBD—a national youth network working to
promote Media and Information Literacy across Bangladesh.
The Olympiad is technically supported and co-hosted by UNESCO Under the BALLOT
Project ensuring alignment with international standards on Media and
Information Literacy, ethics and non-partisanship.
Who Can Participate?
– Age: 18–35 years
– Bangladeshi citizens
– Students and youth from any academic background
– Open, free and nationwide participation
How Does the Olympiad Work?
Step 1: Online registration
Step 2: Access official Olympiad learning modules
Step 3: Practice through mock quizzes
Step 4: Final online Olympiad on 10 February 2026 (50 MCQs, time-bound)
What Topics Will the Questions Cover?
Media and Information Literacy: Introduction to Media and Information Literacy; Information Ecosystems and Digital Media; Misinformation, Disinformation, and Malinformation; Cheap Fakes and Deepfakes; Verification and Fact-Checking Principles; Ethical Content Creation and Sharing; Media, Algorithms, and Public Opinion; Freedom of Expression and Responsibility; Media and Democratic Participation; Civic Responsibility in Digital Spaces; Youth Engagement and Information Integrity; Hate Speech and Harmful Content; Information Integrity during Elections etc.
BD Constitution: Fundamental rights and freedoms;
Duties and responsibilities of citizens; Democratic values, rule of law, and accountability etc.
Election and Referendum Literacy: Electoral and referendum mechanisms; Institutional roles and sources of official information; Risks of misinformation during electoral processes; Responsible citizen behaviour under information uncertainty
Participants are not required to memorize legal articles or unpublished documents.
